ESTATE PLANNING
Wills, Trusts, and Other Recommended Documents
You work hard for your family! With our help you will be secure in the knowledge that you have planned for their long-term well-being and financial security.
At the LaFitte Law Firm we analyze your estate to determine the best way to minimize taxes, establish guardianship for your children, provide for your own long-term needs, make sure there are steps in place to care for your pets, support charities, and ensure your loved ones are safe and supported.
PROBATE
When a loved has passed away, there are responsibilities and needs that have to be attended to. Whether you are a loved one, the person nominated as Executor in a Will, or both, you will need help in administering the deceased person’s estate. The steps you take depend on the decedent’s personal and financial situation, and may not always require court involvement. The LaFitte Law Firm can help you fulfill the role of Executor and make sure that the estate is administered properly and in accordance with the law.
HEIRSHIP
When a loved passes without a Will, there are additional steps that must be taken to prove the identity of the deceased person’s heirs. This can be done informally, or, if necessary, through court action. In either case, The LaFitte Law Firm can advise and guide you through the proper steps and procedures.
GUARDIANSHIP
Guardianship is a process used to protect an individual when he or she cannot protect themselves. A guardian is appointed by the court to make decisions on behalf of a person who suffers from a legal incapacity, whether such incapacity is because the individual is a minor, or an adult who suffers from a physical or mental impairment. In a guardianship proceeding, the court transfers some or all of the health care and financial decision making authority of an incompetent or mentally impaired person to the guardian. Whether a guardianship is the right choice for your loved one depends on your particular circumstances, and the LaFitte Law Firm can help guide and advise you on whether guardianship is the best option.
FAMILY LAW
Family law cases are generally highly charged, emotional situations. Whether you are considering marriage, or filing for divorce, you need the advice of an attorney who can provide you with a realistic assessment of your case. The LaFitte Law Firm will work with you to determine the best course of action to take in order to resolve your matter quickly, efficiently, and as effectively as possible.

“Dealing with probating a will is never what most people would consider an “enjoyable process, but you were able to walk me through it fairly easily; explaining both the big picture as well as the nuances of the many specific details that are included in the process. Your explanations were always clear and thorough – and I never felt “talked down to” because of my familiarity with the legal terms or the legal system. You also did an excellent job of keeping me updated every step of the way! “
